Two Important Reasons
Why most Entrepreneurs
Could Use a Marketing Consultant
Reason
#1—Most people
start a business to do something they are good at or enjoy. So they
know a lot about your area of expertise before they open their doors.
But that doesn’t mean they know all that much about the other
aspects of running a business. And why should they…
My father is the best veterinarian I have
ever come across (yes, I know my opinion is biased, but it’s
also based on having worked with close to 100 vets). And when he
still had his own clinic he often said, “You know, in school
they taught me how to be a great vet. But they didn’t teach
me squat about starting, running or growing a successful practice.”
From what I can tell, this is true
in most fields. After all, just because you are an amazing vet (or
massage therapist, office organizer, engineer, or anything else)
does not mean you are automatically an expert at bookkeeping, budgeting,
planning, organizing—or marketing your business.
Reason
#2—Anytime you
have a lot on your plate (and what entrepreneur doesn’t),
it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the details of just getting
things done. Soon you can’t see the forest for the trees.
Before you know it you are spending all your
time working in your business, and no time working on it. But if
you really want to grow your business—you have to keep an
eye on the big picture too. And that’s really hard when you
are busy taking care of custoemrs and puttign out fires.
Plus, you are often too close to your business
to be objective about your marketing materials and strategies. And
you probably don’t have the benefit of having seen what works
in other people’s businesses—let alone other industries.
Sometimes you really need an outside perspective
to help you take your business to the next level. That's where hiring
an experienced marketing consultant comes in.
